What type of church is New Salem?
New Salem is a Bible based, Christ centered, Purpose driven, and Holy Spirit led Church that is making a positive impact in individuals, families, and the city of Memphis, Tennessee. We believe, as Missionary Baptists, that mission work is vital. Our theme is "God is Good All the Time. "What is appropriate to wear to church?
Come as you are!Do you have ministry for children and teenagers?
New Salem is dedicated to seeing children and teenagers develop a spiritual relationship with Christ. There are many exciting and inspirational classes and activities for all age groups. Our church provides a nursery for infants and toddlers. We also provide a caring and secure environment for this age group while their parents attend worship services. In the spring of 1928 at the home of Will and Sylvester Wadell, the foundation was laid for a new church and what
would become one of the greatest church fellowships of this present age - the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. In February 1972, Reverend Frank E. Ray, Sr. was elected as Pastor. On August 19th, 1978, Pastor Frank E. Ray, Sr. led the New Salem church family from Tillman Street to South Parkway East, a larger more spacious sanctuary.
Pastor Frank Ray led New Salem ministry to build and develop a full-time, multi-purpose ministry.
The super structure houses a sanctuary, banquet hall, Family Life Recreation Center, prayer center, audio and video media ministry, bookstore and classrooms. The total purpose is to meet the needs of the church congregation and community as it continues to take the leadership role in local, national, and international evangelism.
